The Delhi government's Delhi Skill Development University has shut down BTech branches at its three campuses here due to low enrolment of students. These branches of BTech courses had less than 20 students, due to which the university has decided to shut down the departments at its campuses in Ashok Vihar, Pusa-I and Okhla Phase II. The Delhi Skill Development University (DSEU) has asked the affected students to choose another branch or another campus where seats are available in that branch.
According to the order, B.Tech Civil Engineering branch and Mechanical Engineering branch at Aryabhatta DSEU Ashok Vihar Campus, Electrical Engineering branch at DSEU Pusa-I Campus and Network Engineering branch and Mechatronics Engineering branch at DSEU Okhla-II Campus have been closed. Civil Engineering branch was running with 11 students, Mechanical Engineering branch with 8 students, Electrical Engineering with 11 students, Network Engineering with 9 students and Mechatronics Engineering branch with 10 students.
According to the admission board's order, BTech branches which have less than 20 students will be closed in the respective campus. The September 2 order said, “Students of the following branches will be offered the option of choosing another branch or campus as per their consent, subject to the availability of seats in that branch.”
DSEU Vice Chancellor Ashok Kumar Nagawat said that these programmes have been discontinued due to low response from students in these B.Tech courses. He said, “If students do not wish to continue studying in our other branches, we will refund the entire admission fee deposited by the students including the registration fee.”
BJP attack
Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta strongly criticized the Aam Aadmi Party-led Delhi government over the closure of BTech courses. He said that DSEU was established by the AAP government in 2020. Now the sham education model of this Kejriwal government has come to the fore. It is a shame that the BTech course, which is usually one of the most sought-after courses, could not attract even 20 students. The studies of students have been affected due to lack of teachers in DSEU campuses. “Gupta said that this failure exposes the truth of Kejriwal's education revolution, which is actually a huge fraud.
He also alleged that the students were forcibly sent to other campuses.
In response, the Aam Aadmi Party pointed to the performance of BJP governments in states. “It is shameful that even after more than 20 years of BJP rule in Gujarat, 1,606 schools have only one teacher. In a recent video from BJP-ruled Chhattisgarh, girl students are seen crying because there is no teacher in their school,” the AAP alleged.
