NEET MBBS Admission 2024: Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) has excluded five NEET UG candidates from the MBBS admission process who were seeking admission to Punjab State Quota MBBS seats in violation of domicile rules. These candidates had allegedly obtained domicile certificates from more than one state, which is against the admission rules. In fact, BFUHS had received many such complaints from other students and parents, claiming that many students submitted fake domicile certificates to get admission to Punjab State Quota MBBS seats. These students had also obtained domicile certificates from other states to avail the benefits of state quota MBBS seats.
According to The Tribune report, BFUHS Registrar Dr Rakesh Goreya said that these NEET UG students submitted false declarations claiming that they have not applied or will not apply for admission under NEET UG 2024 in other states. As per the rules, all candidates seeking admission to state quota MBBS course seats in Punjab have to submit an affidavit that they are not availing the benefit of residence in any other state or union territory for admission to MBBS course.
To address the complaints of other students and parents, BFUHS examined the certificates of the suspected candidates and asked them to provide evidence to prove their eligibility. After the review, admission of 5 candidates to MBBS course in Punjab was stopped. Of these five students, two are from Chandigarh, one each from Haryana, Chhattisgarh and Uttarakhand.
Domicile certificate is a very important official document for getting admission to a state quota MBBS seat in a state. It confirms a person's residence in a specific state. This certificate is proof of a person's permanent residence. As per MBBS admission rules, a candidate cannot apply for state quota in more than one state.
In Punjab, state quota seats are reserved for the natives of the state. In the last few years, cases of students from other states getting admission on state quota MBBS seats here by using fake domicile certificates have been coming to light. Due to this, the natives of Punjab and the actual entitled students of state quota seats are deprived of admission.
In a similar case, eight students from Tamil Nadu and Kerala have been removed from the MBBS admission list in Puducherry. According to a report in The Hindu, investigation revealed that these students had also obtained two domiciles in more than one state to avail the benefit of state quota seats.
