This year, more students will get admission opportunities in medical colleges as 6872 MBBS seats have increased. Last year, the total was 1,08,940, which has increased to 1,15,812 this year. Union Health and Family Welfare Minister JP Nadda on Friday told the media about the ministry's 100-day achievements. He said that there were 706 medical colleges in the year 2023-24. During 2024-25, their number has increased to 766. These include 423 government and 343 private medical colleges. He said that along with MBBS, PG seats have also increased.
Last year, there were 69,024 medical PG seats, which increased to 73,111 this year. He said, in 2013-14, there were 51,348 MBBS seats and 379 medical colleges in the country. Then there were 31,185 PG seats. Under the NDA regime, the number of medical seats and colleges have more than doubled.
Drone services approved in AIIMS
Nadda said, drone services have been approved in AIIMS. This will help in collecting blood samples, sending reports and supplying medical supplies.
Special Ayushman cards will be given from October
JP Nadda said that in the Modi 3.0 government, the Health Ministry has taken many important decisions within 100 days. These include giving health insurance of Rs 5 lakh to the elderly above 70 years of age. Preparations are underway to implement this scheme and it will be launched in October.
