75 percent attendance is mandatory to appear in 10th and 12th board exam, CBSE issued guidelines, career news

Before the CBSE 10th and 12th examination 2025, the Central Board of Secondary Education has once again reminded its affiliated schools that it is mandatory for the student to have 75 percent attendance to appear in the board exam. If a student's attendance in school is less than 75 percent, he will be ineligible to appear in the board examination. CBSE has said in its guidelines that the board can give 25 percent relaxation in some cases like medical emergency, participation in national games or any other serious reason etc. To get this relief, the student will have to show the relevant documents.

The board has instructed schools to give information about this to students. The official notice said, 'Schools should regularly monitor the attendance records and maintain the same. The attendance register should be updated daily. It should be signed by the class teacher and the competent authority of the school. It should be easily available for inspection by CBSE at any time.

The Central Board has reiterated its guidelines at a time when it is very strict against dummy schools. Dummy schools are those schools where the attendance of the students is marked without coming. This is against CBSE rules. Recently, CBSE had conducted surprise inspection in many schools of Delhi and Rajasthan and issued notices to them after finding irregularities. Actually, 'dummy schools' are like normal schools, only here students who are preparing for JEE Main, JEE Advanced, NEET exam etc. are not required to come for regular classes. These are also called non-attending schools. A large number of students preparing for engineering and medical entrance exams (entrance exams like JEE Main and NEET) prefer to take admission in 'dummy schools' so that they can focus only on preparing for the competitive exams. They do not attend classes and directly appear for the board exams. Now CBSE has come into action to stop this practice.

Apart from this, CBSE has also stated in the notice that the board can also conduct surprise inspections to check the attendance records of the students. During such inspections if it is found that records are incomplete or it is revealed that students are not coming to school regularly, the school may face strict action. The recognition of the school may also be cancelled. Students may be disqualified from appearing for the board examinations.

Complete 9th and 11th registration by 16th October

CBSE directed all affiliated schools to ensure that 100 per cent registration of class 9 and 11 students studying in their schools is completed by October 16. The board has decided that next year when LOC will be filled, no student will be registered by the board. It has been observed that during submission of LOC, some schools are informing CBSE that some of their students were left out for registration last year due to the following reasons:
