UPSC CSE 2024 Prelims: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has told the Delhi High Court that it will allow candidates from the hill districts of Manipur who have chosen Imphal as their examination centre, to change it. Also, the state government will provide them travel facilities. The Commission said that such candidates can choose any center in Aizawl, Mizoram. The Commission said that for Kohima, Nagaland, Shillong, Meghalaya, Dispur, Assam, Jorhat, Assam, Kolkata, West Bengal, Delhi can request for change of examination center through e-mail between April 8 to 19. The statement comes on a petition by Jomi Students Federation, demanding setting up of examination centers in the hill districts of Churachandpur and Kangpokpi of Manipur for the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2024 and Indian Forest Service (Preliminary) Examination, 2024 .

Commission (UPSC) said that since the Government of Manipur has expressed its inability to open the examination centers at Churachandpur and Kangpokpi, it is not possible to open and operate the examination centers there for the UPSC examination. That is why UPSC counsel assures that the Commission will accommodate the candidates from the hilly districts of Manipur who have chosen Imphal as their examination center by requesting them to change their examination center during the period from April 8, 2024 to April 19, 2024. This affidavit has been presented before the bench of Acting Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Manmeet PS Arora. The bench said in its order that the Manipur government has decided to extend financial assistance in the form of reimbursement of fare for transportation, limited to the maximum of the second class sleeper railway fare rates or the notified bus fare rates of the state. Also, an amount of Rs 1,000 per day will be given for food and accommodation for a maximum of three days. The bench said that in case of any need, candidates from these districts can contact the commission's toll-free helpline number 1800118711. The bench has disposed of the petition with this order.
