By amending the Primary Teacher Service Rules, Uttarakhand Education Department has removed the requirement of B.Ed for the recruitment of teachers and approved two-year D.El.Ed. With this decision of the state government, the way has been cleared for the recruitment of about 3600 primary teachers. Education Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat on Tuesday gave instructions to start the recruitment process of basic teachers soon. Education Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat said that the Supreme Court had canceled the notification issued by the National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE) in the year 2018 in which B.Ed degree was made mandatory for primary teachers.
In compliance with this decision of the Supreme Court, the State Cabinet has already approved amendments in the State Elementary Education (Teachers) Service Rules, 2012. In continuation of this, the government has now issued Uttarakhand State Elementary Education (Teacher) (Amendment) Service Rules, 2024. Through this amendment, the government has invalidated B.Ed degree, the educational qualification required for basic teachers. Now only D.El.Ed degree holders will be eligible for the post of basic teacher from class 1st to 5th in the state.
The departmental minister said that with the implementation of the new rules for basic teachers in the state, the way has been cleared for the recruitment of about 3600 primary teachers. Departmental officers have been directed to start the recruitment process. For this, after taking permission for recruitment from the Election Commission, instructions have been given to immediately send the requisition regarding the vacant posts to the concerned District Education Officers (Basic).
