UPSC Success Story: When his mother was rebuked for labour, he took a vow, then the son of a MNREGA labourer cracked UPSC


Sometimes some incidents change the direction of life. One such incident happened in the life of Hemant, a resident of Hanumangarh district of Rajasthan. He had to argue with the officer for the money of his mother, a MNREGA worker. At that time, the statement shook Hemant's soft heart so much that he too resolved to become an officer. So that such a situation does not arise in the future. It is not that this pledge was going to last for a few moments or a few days only, recently Hemant proved by passing the UPSC exam that his pledge was as firm as Bhishma's pledge.

While most people think that better resources are needed to pass the country's most prestigious examination, this precious diamond from the desert has once again proved this notion wrong. Hemant has proved that for success, resources are not required but strong determination is required.

Hemant comes from a very simple family. His mother used to work as a MNREGA laborer and his father is a local priest. Hemant had secured 884th rank in the UPSC exam. However, he was disappointed in the first attempt. But in the second attempt, he put in all his effort and got success in the exam. In UPSC CSE 2023, Hemant scored 792 marks in the written examination and 120 marks in the interview, securing a total of 912 marks.

Once when he was arguing with an official regarding his mother's daily wages, he came to know the meaning of Collector. After which he started preparing for the UPSC exam.  Hemant studied in college UPSC started preparing. After clearing the prelims in the first attempt, he could not appear in the main exam due to lack of passing marks.

English was weak

It was difficult for Hemant to prepare for UPSC, but he did not give up despite many failures. Due to failure in English, the diploma remained incomplete, but with the encouragement of friends, he obtained a graduation degree from SKN Agricultural University, Jobner.

Did not take coaching

After the UPSC results were announced, Hemant's father could not believe his result, while his mother was crying with joy. Hemant had always seen his mother in sorrow, but this was the first time he saw her in tears of joy. Hemant says that he did not have enough money for coaching. But he made digital media a weapon and cracked the UPSC exam.
