The process of admission at the Delhi University is in its final stages these days. Going by the reports, two rounds of counseling have been completed, while the third round started from August 31. The institution has allocated several seats under the supernumerary quota, which was introduced by the university last year. According to the reports, the supernumerary quota was introduced by the institution to aid students affected due to the Covid-19 pandemic. 764 vacancies are made available by DU for single girl child applicants and 132 seats are given to orphans, as per more information given. Going into more detail on the allocation, under the single girl child quota, one seat is reserved across each program in the DU colleges. While in the orphan quota, a seat is reserved for a male and a female student in all the programs.
Around 74,108 admissions are confirmed by the institution in the upgrade round, for 71,600 undergraduate seats available. More information states that 28,810 students had applied for upgradation, while 45,298 applicants had chosen to freeze their admissions. The upgrading window was open from August 31 to September 1.
In the current phase, the admissions will be given through the performance-based programs and supernumerary quotas. It also includes children of widows of armed forces personnel (CW), special achievements in extracurricular activities (ECA) and the sports quota. Based on the information released by the institution, the ECA allocations were reported to be 1,061 while the sports allocations were at 1,648 and the performance-based allocations stood at 332. The seat allotment list for Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) and the CW categories. are yet to be shared and will be released soon, stated Delhi University. The third round of CSAS allocation and its vacancies are expected on September 11.
Going by more reports, several colleges have taken in more admissions compared to the vacancies available, due to popularity of certain courses. These include BCom, BCom Honours, Political Science Honours, English Honours, and History Honors courses.
