Hindi Diwas Speech
Good morning to the respected chief guest, Principal Sir, teachers and my friends…
Many best wishes to all of you on Hindi Diwas. Think Hindi, Write Hindi, Speak Hindi, Read Hindi. Today is 14th September and this day is dedicated to Hindi language. Hindi which binds the country in the thread of unity is not just a language but an expression of emotions. Keeping in mind the importance of Hindi for us, our society and the country, Hindi Diwas is celebrated every year on 14th September in the country. Today is the day to take a pledge to promote and propagate Hindi.
Friends, two years after independence, on 14 September 1949, Hindi was declared the official language by a unanimous vote in the Constituent Assembly. After this decision, to spread Hindi in every field, on the request of Rashtriya Bhasha Prachar Samiti, Wardha, 14 September was celebrated as Hindi Day every year across India from 1953. Hindi Day was celebrated for the first time in the country on 14 September 1953. Since then, Hindi Day is celebrated with great enthusiasm every year across the country.
India is a country full of diversity. People of different religions and castes live here. People speaking different languages, dialects, having different attires, food habits and cultures live here. It is the Hindi language that binds all the people of the country in the thread of unity. Hindi has a huge contribution in keeping the country united. Hindi is not just a language or a means of communication, but is also a social and cultural bridge between every Indian. Hindi language connects us with our present as well as the heritage of Indian culture, those great ancient Sanskrit texts, which are a reason for pride for us today. In a democratic country, the importance of using the language born from our soil becomes even more important and essential because it can be the right and natural medium of expression of public opinion. It is the duty of all of us Indians to contribute to the development, expansion and promotion of Hindi language. Friends, the great personalities of our country have also been strongly supporting the promotion of Hindi. Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi had called Hindi the language of the masses. Acharya Vinoba Bhave had said that I respect all the languages of the world but I cannot tolerate if Hindi is not respected in my country.
Hindi has given us recognition all over the world. Hindi is spoken not only in India but in many countries around the world. After English and Mandarin, Hindi is the third most spoken language in the world. To promote Hindi at the global level, World Hindi Day is also organized every year on 10 January. Hindi language is spoken in more than 20 countries outside India. The importance of Hindi is evident from the fact that today in the country, medical and engineering studies are also being done in Hindi medium in many institutions. MBBS and BTech books have started coming in Hindi. People have started using Hindi extensively on social media as well.
Friends, Hindi is not just a language, but it is our identity. Speak Hindi, use it in everyday practical life, learn and teach Hindi. Today we should take a pledge to use it as much as possible.
I would like to conclude my speech with a few lines.
I kept the rest of the language only in books
Kept Hindi in my feelings everywhere.
Hindi is the life of India, Hindi is the identity of the country
Even across the seven seas… Hindi is the pride of India
Thank you. Jai Hind.
