BHU administration has taken a new initiative for the mental health of its family members. In the new academic session, BHU will provide psychological welfare services to its students and staff as well as teachers. For this, 90 days training is being given to 15 students with background in psychology studies. This program has been started on the basis of the recommendations of the National Education Policy-2020. 15 students who have completed Post Graduate Diploma in Psychology from BHU and selected as interns under Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Scheme at BHU have been included in this psychological welfare service. This training titled 'Vishwakarma-The Skilled Counselor' will make the participants skilled counsellors. This training is being given to the students by professional trainers of 'Manas-The Inside Story' organization. This service will be operated from the Dean of Students Office.
Student Dean Prof. Anupam Kumar Nema said that many types of psychological dilemmas worry the youth and adversely affect their mental health. They do not have the necessary means and resources to face these challenges. Pro. NEMA said that this service is in line with the National Education Policy-2020 in which special emphasis has been laid on psychological well-being.
In this service, students, teachers and staff will be taught ways to maintain mental health and well-being amidst the pressure of work or studies. Everyone will also be given counseling if needed. BHU Student Welfare Advisor Commander (Retd) Sayantan Sanyal said that this initiative is in response to the all-round welfare of the members of the university family by Vice Chancellor Prof. It is being done under the commitment of Sudhir Kumar Jain.
