The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has found a huge difference in the marks of theory and practical exams in some subjects of about 50 percent of the students of 500 schools. Board officials gave this information on Wednesday. They said that the board has advised the schools to review their internal assessment process (method of internal assessment). Officials said that the schools have been advised to give priority to fairness and accuracy while evaluating the practical examination and ensure that the process is fair and contributes significantly to the educational journey of the students.
CBSE Secretary Himanshu Gupta said, “The Central Board of Secondary Education has found a huge discrepancy in the marks obtained by 50 percent or more students in theory and practical exams in some subjects in 500 CBSE affiliated schools through Advanced Artificial Intelligence. A huge difference was found between practical and theory marks.”
“This anomaly highlights the need for careful assessment during practical exams in schools. As a result, the board has issued an advisory to such schools to review their internal assessment processes,” he said.
CBSE said it aims to put in place a more robust, transparent and credible mechanism to ensure that the assessment process is realistic and adds substantial value to the academic journey of students.
Gupta said, “This advisory serves as a reminder to prioritise fairness and accuracy in the evaluation of practical exams, which will enhance the quality of education provided in CBSE-affiliated institutions.”
