EWS Students Admission: Delhi High Court has expressed displeasure over private schools not providing admission despite their names appearing in EWS (Low Income Group) quota. The court has ordered the Directorate of Education of Delhi Government to intervene in this matter and get the girl student admitted in the school. Justice C Harishankar's bench on Saturday told the Directorate of Education to immediately intervene so that the future of the petitioner student is not affected. Along with getting the student admitted, other benefits available under EWS quota should also be provided. These benefits also include school uniform and books. Actually, in this case the student had filed a petition in the High Court through her father. It was argued that he had filled the form for admission under EWS quota in a private school.
His name appeared in the computerized draw conducted by the directorate on March 14 last year, but the school refused to grant him admission without giving any reason. The bench took this petition seriously.
Girl wandering after name appearing in draw
The bench said that the seven-year-old girl has been searching for admission for the last one year even after her name appeared in the draw. Keeping in view the future of the girl, the bench immediately issued notice to the school and the Directorate of Education, but the school did not reach the court to file its reply. On this, the bench directed the Directorate of Education to take the responsibility of getting the girl admitted in the concerned class. The bench said that if the school shows any objection then the directorate should take appropriate steps.
