Your first posting in any university is as an Assistant Professor, after about 8 years you become an Associate Professor and then after about 3 years you become a Professor. But only PhD is not enough to enter this field. The government has formed various commissions for appointment in government universities in different states, which make these appointments. The appointment process set by most of the commissions in the country has two stages – academic verification and interview. In academic verification, different marks have been set for your graduation, PG, UGC NET, PhD, article publication, teaching experience and national or international award.
In the interview, subject knowledge and teaching aptitude are tested. Marks are awarded on the basis of your marks in graduation and PG. For example, in graduation, 15 marks are given for more than 80 percent marks, 13 marks for more than 60 percent marks and 10 marks for less than 60 percent marks, whereas in post-graduation, 25 marks are given for more than 80 percent marks, 23 marks for more than 60 percent marks and 20 marks for less than 60 percent marks. If you have done UGC NET JRF, then you will get 7 marks and if you have done only UGC NET, you will get 5 marks.
Teaching experience will get 2 marks per year and it will be for a maximum of 5 years. The same rule will be applicable for published articles as well. After that there is an interview. See the appointment notification by the commission or university.
