The Government of Karnataka has informed the Supreme Court that the board examinations of classes 5, 8 and 9 have been canceled in three rural districts in the state for the academic year 2024-25. This decision came when the bench of Justices Bela M. Trivedi and Satish Chandra Sharma was hearing an appeal. In this, 'Organization for Unaided Recognized Schools' had challenged the March 22 decision of the Karnataka High Court.
The division bench of the Karnataka High Court had earlier allowed the state government to conduct board examinations for classes 5, 8, 9 and 11 for the 2023-24 academic year, while a single judge had overturned the decision on March 6. But the Supreme Court had stayed the order of the Division Bench on April 8. The bench said this is an example where the Karnataka state government has created a huge crisis not only among the students and their parents, but also among the teachers and school management.
