JNV Admission 2024: The Delhi High Court directed Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya to ensure that no student is denied admission merely on the ground that he or she does not belong to the district where the school is located. Justice C. Hari Shankar quashed the order of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Mungeshpur, in which a girl student was denied admission. The court said that the girl student is eligible for admission in class VI during the academic session 2024-25 and will continue her studies there. The court passed this order on the petition of a girl student who had studied till class V in Navayug School located on Peshwa Road in the national capital and wanted admission in class VI in Jawahar Navodaya School located in Mungeshpur. The school had refused to admit the girl student on the ground that her previous studies were in New Delhi district while Mungeshpur area falls under North West Delhi. The High Court noted that another bench of the High Court had considered a similar case. As an interim measure, while the matter is pending in a division bench, the girl student in the earlier petition is allowed to continue her studies in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya. Justice Shankar said, “JNV (Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya) is therefore directed to ensure that the (earlier) decision is complied with from now on and students are not denied admission in JNV on the ground that they do not belong to the district where the JNV is located so that every student is not forced to go through litigation.”
