IIT Campus Placements: The recent placement report of the country's top engineering college IIT Bombay surprised everyone. This time, the lowest annual package of the prestigious engineering institute of India and the favourite of the JEE Advanced toppers has come down to Rs 4 lakh. Whereas the biggest salary packages in the top IIT institutes are in crores. On an average, it was between Rs 20 to 28 lakh per year. Experts have blamed the global economic situation for this.
Here is a look at the minimum salary packages offered by some top IIT institutes since 2019
Minimum Annual Package (in Rs Lakh)
– At IIT Madras, it was Rs 6 lakh in 2023-24, Rs 5.40 lakh in 2022-23, Rs 3 lakh in 2021-22, Rs 3.67 lakh in 2020-21 and Rs 5.4 lakh in 2019-20.
– At IIT Bombay, it was Rs 6 lakh in 2023-24, Rs 6 lakh in 2022-23, Rs 5.43 lakh in 2020-21.
– IIT Kharagpur was Rs 8 lakh in 2023-24, Rs 7 lakh in 2022-23, Rs 16 lakh in 2021-22, Rs 9.5 lakh in 2020-21, Rs 8.8 lakh in 2019-20.
– The minimum annual package at IIT Roorkee in the last five years has been Rs 6-8 lakh.
– At IIT Guwahati, it was Rs 7 lakh in 2023-24, Rs 5.23 lakh in 2022-23, Rs 7 lakh in 2021-22, Rs 7 lakh in 2020-21 and Rs 7 lakh in 2019-20.
IIT Madras
IIT Madras tops the Government of India's NIRF rankings (engineering colleges). While the average salary for BTech graduates at IIT Madras increased from Rs 29.28 lakh in 2018-19 to Rs 41.72 lakh per annum in 2021-22, the lowest salary ranged from Rs 5.4 lakh per annum in 2019-20 to Rs 6 lakh per annum in 2023-24, according to a report by the Indian Express.
II Delhi
IIT Delhi is ranked second in the NIRF 2024 (Engineering Category) rankings. According to the IIT Delhi Summer Internship Placement Report 2023, the highest stipend here was Rs 4.04 lakh per month and the average stipend was Rs 2.63 lakh per month. The lowest salary here can be up to 10 lakh per year.
IIT Bombay
IIT Bombay is ranked third in the NIRF 2024 rankings. In the first phase of IIT Bombay's December placement drive, 22 students received offers of more than Rs 1 crore. Of these, three were domestic while 19 were international. This year the lowest annual package has dropped to Rs 4 lakh and seven companies have made 10 offers of Rs 4 to 6 lakh per annum.
IIT Kanpur
IIT Kanpur received a total of 989 offers including 22 international offers in the first phase of the 2023-24 placement session. The average salary was Rs 26.27 lakh per annum.
IIT Kharagpur
IIT Kharagpur received over 700 placement offers including pre-placement offers (PPOs) on the very first day of the 2023 placement session. Over 19 international offers were received. 6 students were offered CTCs of over Rs 1 crore on the first day of the placement drive.
