NEET MBBS Admission 2024: The MBBS admission of more than 100 students at Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) has come under scrutiny. BFUHS has received several complaints claiming that many students submitted fake domicile certificates to get admission to Punjab state quota MBBS seats. Out of the total 1,550 MBBS seats in the state, 10 medical colleges offer around 1,200 state quota seats. Domicile certificate is a very important official document for taking admission to state quota MBBS seats in a state. It confirms a person's residence in a specific state. This certificate is proof of a person's permanent residence.
State quota seats in Punjab are reserved for the natives of the state. For the past few years, cases of students from other states getting admission to state quota MBBS seats here by using fake domicile certificates have been coming to light. Due to this, the natives of Punjab and the actual entitled students of state quota seats are deprived of admission. In the first round of counselling, there are 5,721 applicants for these 1,200 state quota MBBS seats.
Students and their parents hailing from various parts of Punjab have lodged a complaint with the BFUHS authorities alleging that names of several candidates for state quota seats are also appearing simultaneously in the merit lists of Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat, thereby claiming to be genuine residents of these states.

According to the rule, a candidate cannot apply for state quota in more than one state. The complaint claims that more than 100 students who took admission in the university's MBBS course have obtained more than one domicile certificate.
As per the rules, all the candidates and their parents seeking admission to the state quota MBBS course seats in Punjab have to submit an affidavit that they are not taking advantage of residency in any other state or union territory for admission to the MBBS course. A senior official of the medical university said that after receiving several complaints, BFUHS has started investigating the certificates submitted by suspicious candidates and has sought clarification from them about their names appearing in the merit list of other states.
BFUHS Vice Chancellor Dr Rajiv Sood said that complete fairness and transparency will be maintained in the allotment of MBBS seats and cheating will not be allowed at any cost.
Such cases were reported in BFUHS last year as well. Many students were trying to get admission in state quota MBBS and BDS seats by getting domicile certificates from more than one state. They had got domicile certificates from more than one state. These candidates had tried to take advantage of state quota for admission in MBBS and BDS courses in more than one state by giving their wrong addresses.
