The 2013 batch of IRS officer Anwesh has always been inspired by stories related to common people. Therefore, he decided to make a film about their struggles.
Time management is one of the important skills which helps an aspirant to pass the competitive exams. Mastering this skill to the core, Indian Revenue Service (IRS) Officer Anwesh made a film and got inducted into the list of independent filmmakers after working 15-16 hours every day on his government work. Anwesh has made his film Kathakar Ki Diary- The Tale of Ordinary Lives.
Born in Azimabad in the Balasore district of Odisha, Anwesh is a trained Hindustani classical singer. With a passion for music and a dream of filmmaking, he did his graduation from Bhatkhande Music Institute, Lucknow. In 2013, he cleared the UPSC Civil Service Examination.
Before directing his film, Anwesh worked in numerous music videos. He was also part of the MX Player's short film Society' Apart from this, he also played a small role in Nagesh Kukunoor's web series City of Dreams. The IRS officer Anwesh invested two years of his life in making Kathakar Ki Diary.
The plot of the film revolves around the stories of common people. From tribals struggling in the forests of Odisha to transgenders facing obstacles in running their households, the film encompasses the diverse problems of the society.
The 2013 batch of IRS officer Anwesh has always been inspired by stories related to common people. Therefore, he decided to make a film about their struggles. He reached out to them, understood their story and weaved a script around it to shape it into a film. There are five characters in this story written by Anwesh, including a cancer patient, a child, a transgender, a musician and a sports coach. How their lives get entangled and how they work to fulfill their goals, is what Kathakar Ki Diary is all about.
Most of the shooting of this film was done in Western Odisha, Mumbai and Pune with local artists and technicians. This film was made at a very low cost while being crowd-funded. IRS officer Anwesh is the director, music composer and actor in the film.
While talking to Local18, Anwesh said that this is a people's film and he is looking at it like a startup. “We would not have been able to make this film without the people. We will try to screen the film in IFFI i.e. India International Film Festivals, but some private screenings will also be done. Efforts are on to show it in the Toronto Film Festival, Busan Film Festival and Berlin Film Festival.” Anvesh added.
