NEET: The cancellation of grace marks of 1563 candidates who appeared for the medical entrance exam NEET UG 2024 and conducting re-exam for them will affect the overall merit list of NEET. The number of top rankers of NEET will also change. According to reports, the National Testing Agency NTA may release a new all India merit list after releasing the result of NEET re-exam on June 30. This year 67 students topped NEET by securing 720 out of 720 marks. However, due to the tie breaking policy, the all India rank (NEET AIR) of all these is different. 6 students among the top scorers had given the paper at the same exam center in Haryana. All these six students are among the 1563 students whose grace marks have been canceled.

According to a report published in the Times of India, whether any of these 1563 students take the NEET re-exam or accept their scorecard without grace marks, not only their rank but the rank of all 23 lakh NEET students will be affected. The NEET UG counseling process will begin from July 6. Although the Supreme Court has refused to ban the counseling and admission process, it has also made it clear that the admission of students who have passed NEET in medical colleges will depend on the final decision on the petitions demanding cancellation of the exam held on May 5.

NEET UG 2024 Explainer: Why were the grace marks of 1563 NEET students canceled, what is the controversy, understand the whole story in 10 points

An NTA official has said that unless these 1563 candidates take the re-exam and score 720 out of 720 marks, they will not be able to regain their top position. The revised rank list will be released only after we know how many of these candidates want to take the exam again.

After three notices, NTA sent an incomplete reply to EOU
The EOU (Economic Offenses Unit) in Bihar is investigating the alleged paper leak case of the National Eligibility Test (NEET). The EOU had sought many facts related to this case from the National Testing Council (NTA), the agency conducting NEET. After issuing notices three times from the investigating agency level and seeking information, NTA sent its reply via e-mail on Wednesday night. However, this too is incomplete. It contains only the names of some candidates, roll numbers and some other information related to it. Even now the investigating agency has not received answers to many basic questions, with the help of which the investigation can be given a decisive direction and the original source of the question paper leak can be reached.

In the investigation of the entire case so far, it has come to light that after the NEET question paper was leaked from a state outside Bihar, the setters here distributed it among their selected people. During this time, this question paper got leaked and went viral on WhatsApp. EOU is waiting for the reply of NTA. EOU suspects that setters from other states including UP, Delhi are also involved in the gang that leaked the question paper. The names of mastermind Dr. Shiv and 12 other people involved with him had come to light in the teacher recruitment paper leak. The involvement of half a dozen people including Dr. Shiv is also coming to light in the NEET paper leak.

EOU sought answers to these questions from NTA
The EOU (Economic Offenses Unit) had asked the NTA that in which press was the question paper printed? Was it printed in one press or more? Which company or agency was given the responsibility of delivering it from the press to different states? How many officials of NTA at which level were aware of this entire process? Who was given the responsibility of bringing the question paper and delivering it to the examination centers located at different places, especially in Bihar?

OU suspects that the leaked NEET paper reached Bihar centres from another state
Patna. The EOU (Economic Offenses Unit) investigating the NEET scam has found clues in its investigation so far that the paper was not leaked in Bihar. After being leaked at some place near Haryana and Rajasthan, it reached the centres in Bihar via WhatsApp. Then it was sent to selected people from here. The EOU wants the help of NTA in this so that it can be revealed from where the question paper was actually leaked.
