The Supreme Court is hearing the controversial NEET UG exam today. Chief Justice DY Chandrachud has asked the National Testing Agency how many of the top 1.08 lakh candidates had used the correction window to change the exam city. About 24 lakh candidates had appeared in the NEET exam held on May 5. After the release of their scorecards, there was a ruckus about the exam in the whole country.
The National Testing Agency has said that the 100 toppers are from different centres. The 100 students mentioned in the court are from different states. The CBI has also arrested many people from different districts in the NEET paper leak case. The NTA said that 25% of the syllabus was reduced in the NEET exam this year. This helped the students score well. Good scores should not be linked to manipulation or rigging.
The NTA has said that the success of candidates scoring high marks is not an indication of systematic failure in the NEET exam. During the hearing, the issue was raised that the highest scorers were from different states, categories and roll numbers. The NTA says that the CBI is conducting its investigation, and it is wrong to say right now that deserving candidates have not got a chance because the selection process is completely rank-based. In the last hearing, the government said that there is no evidence of large-scale cheating in NEET, so the exam should not be canceled. The NTA said in the affidavit that the paper was not leaked across the country.
