NEET UG, MBBS Admission: Record applications have been received for the medical entrance exam NEET for the 9th consecutive year. 24 lakh forms have been submitted for admission to medical, dental and other health courses for the academic session 2024-25. A little more than 6000 MBBS seats have been added in government medical colleges for the academic year 2024-25. Due to increase in seats the competition has become a little easier than before. This time there will be 42.2 candidates vying for one seat. This is the lowest in the last 8 years. Talking about the number of applications, it is the highest in the last seven years. There has been an increase of 3 lakh registrations as compared to 2023-2024. This time also the number of girls among the applicants is more. About 57.2 percent are girls. Girls were 56.7 percent in 2023 and 53.5 percent in 2022. In the year 2016, 8.02 lakh students had applied for NEET.
According to the website of National Medical Commission (NMC), there are a total of 706 government and private medical colleges in the country in which there are 109145 MBBS seats. According to the report of Times of India, MBBS seats in government medical colleges have increased to 56385. However, this increase is the highest in the last 15 years. There were 48212 MBBS seats in 2023 and 43435 seats in 2022. This time maximum 339125 applications have come from UP. After this, 279904 applications have come from Maharashtra and 196139 applications from Rajasthan. 139398 students have registered from Bihar.
NEET exam will be conducted on 5th May 2024 while the result will be announced on 14th June 2024. Through NEET, admission to MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BHMS, BUMS and various other undergraduate medical courses is done in all the medical colleges of the country. Apart from this, candidates for Military Nursing Service (MNS) will also be able to take admission in B.Sc Nursing course of Armed Forces Medical Service Hospital through the marks of NEET UG exam.
