14 new medical colleges are likely to be opened in Uttar Pradesh from the upcoming 2024-25 academic session. The state medical education department has applied to the National Medical Commission (NMC), the body that oversees medical education in the country, for inspection of the campuses of new medical colleges. Now NMC will take stock of the facilities required for further medical studies in these medical colleges and approve them. Once medical colleges get permission, 1,400 more MBBS seats will be added to the approximately 8,000 seats available in the state.

“Physical verification of the infrastructure in the 14 campuses is expected any time,” said a senior official of the medical education department. We have submitted the application and also deposited the fee for the same. The districts where plans are being made to open medical colleges include Kanpur Dehat, Lalitpur and Kaushambi.

Meanwhile, the Medical Education Department has started planning for admission and counseling from NEET. The department plans to get the green signal for new medical colleges before the counseling schedule comes out.
