The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued an order for medical colleges to fill in the student information related to first-year MBBS admission for the session 2024-25. They have further directed all medical colleges and institutions to make sure that the admission process is as per the National Medical Commission Act, 2019, and the selection process of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).
For this purpose, the NMC has implemented an online monitoring system for every medical college that requires all the colleges to fill up the details of the admitted students on the NMC's official website by November 8. Every institution has to log in with its unique ID and Enter data related to each student such as NEET scores, student details, admission category, fee details etc.
Apart from submitting student details online, colleges are obliged to post other related admission details on their websites for public access. The NMC may also seek other documents such as 10 + 2 certificates and Caste / Equivalence certificates to ensure compliance with the guidelines.
As per this directive, all the medical colleges have to admit the students strictly within the intake capacity as mandated and only through centralized NEET-based counselling.
The criteria for admission include the candidate's age of 17 years on or after December 31, completion of 10+2 qualifying examination separately for each of the subjects, and qualifying NEET-UG score depending on the percentile scores as defined by different categories. For general candidates, the 50th percentile in NEET is required, whereas it is the 40th percentile for SC/ST/OBC and PwD categories. Candidates who are physically challenged must also have passed at least the 45th percentile in their tests.
The NMC has issued a word of caution that if any college is found guilty of enrolling students through any process other than the NEET counseling system or those who admit more students than the allowed quota could be heavily penalized financially or otherwise. In case of the first offense of course non-compliance, the total fine is Rs 1 crore or the course fee per seat and for the subsequent offences, it is double the amount. If the violation persists, the institutions may be placed under probation and banned from admitting students in future academic years.
