UGC's New 4-Year UG Honours With Research Course: The new academic session in colleges across India is going to start in August. At present, students are busy with their admission process. This year, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has also asked universities to introduce four-year UG programs as per the Choice Based Credit System. The commission has also introduced UG Honors with Research Courses.

UGC's new 4-year undergraduate courses have multiple entry and exit points. Students who decide to quit their studies after the first year and have obtained 40 credits or more will be given a UG certificate. Also, those who do a vocational course of four credits during the summer vacation will have the opportunity to complete their studies by re-entering the degree program within three years. They will have a maximum of seven years to complete the degree program.

Also, if someone quits their studies after the second year and has a credit score of 80, they will be offered a UG diploma. Candidates who decide to quit UG courses after the third year and have a credit score of 120 will get a three-year UG degree. On the other hand, students who complete their UG course in a major subject with a credit score of 160 will be awarded a four-year UG honours degree.

During the 4-year UG course, students who score more than 75 percent marks in their first six semesters and want to do research at the undergraduate level will have the option to choose the research stream in the fourth year. Students will be able to do a research project under the guidance of a faculty member of the college or university. For more information, students have to visit the official website of the respective college.

As per UGC guidelines, students who leave the courses midway can re-join it and complete their degree. For re-admission, they will have two summer vocational courses of four credits each.
