The civil service examination is to be conducted by the Union Public Service Commission on Sunday. Every candidate is worried about last minute preparation. The preliminary examination consists of two questions of two hours each. In the first paper, a total of 100 questions are asked from History, Geography, Polity, Economy, Environment and Ecology, General Science, Current Affairs etc. The second paper will be of C-SAT in which there are a total of 80 questions from Mathematics, Reasoning and Comprehension of tenth standard level. The general perception is that one has to just pass this paper, so the candidates are not very serious.
According to Akhil Murthy, Managing Director of Sanskriti IAS and civil service expert, the importance of CSAT is equal to that of general studies. Success in CSAT can be achieved by adopting a special strategy in the remaining time.
Trick one If the question/statement contains extreme words like all, only, none of these/none of them/none of them, too, must, will, cannot, completely, permanently, ultimately, nobody, must and every, then the statement is generally wrong.
Trick two If some simple or average words like some, could, may be, some of these, one of these, is more, is less are used in the statement then the statement is generally correct.
Trick Three Sometimes some such words are used in the statement which make the statement extreme and different from all others. Such statements are generally wrong. Usually these words are, very much affected, bondage, essential, quite, completely, extremely, at first, recently, for the first time and oldest etc.
Trick Four If multiple statements are given in a statement and the statements are of similar nature, then their factual information is often interchanged. In such a case, both the statements become wrong.
Trick Five If words like continuous growth, decrease, continuous, last five years or last decade are used in the statement then the statement is usually wrong. There may be gradual increase in the data but the condition of gradual increase in the rate of growth is usually wrong.
Trick Six In questions related to Polity, if the statement says that a term or word has been defined in the Constitution then it is generally wrong.
Trick Seven In application based questions, there is a possibility of all statements being correct. Such questions are usually related to subjects like science and technology, environment.
Trick Eight Statements about contemporaneous, same time period, same religion are generally wrong. Especially in questions related to history, if a statement links literature, place, painting, music, dance, architecture to a historical person, dynasty, empire, sect, then the statement is generally wrong.
