In a historic decision, the Government of India has allowed a female IRS officer named Anusuya to change her name and gender. The Union Finance Ministry has approved M Anusuya's request to change her name and gender in all official documents. Now Anusuya will be called M Anukaathir Surya and her name will be recorded as a male. Surya is an IRS officer of the 2013 batch. She got 890th rank in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2012. Her roll number was 398505. She was allotted IRS services.
Anusuya is currently working as Joint Commissioner in the Office of the Chief Commissioner of Customs, Excise and Service Tax Appellate Tribunal (CESTAT) in Hyderabad. Anusuya had requested to change her name to M. Anukaathir Surya and gender from female to male.
Anusuya started her career as Assistant Commissioner in Chennai in December 2013. In 2018, she was made Deputy Commissioner. Last year, she reached the post of Joint Commissioner in Hyderabad. Anusuya has a bachelor's degree in Electronics and Communication from Madras Institute of Technology. At the same time, in the year 2023, she did a PG Diploma in Cyber Law and Cyber Forensics from National Law University, Bhopal.
